Avengers Academy will end with the November issue. Journey into Mystery will continue as a Lady Sif book with Kathyrn Immonen and Valerio Schiti, and it appears that Kid Loki will be sliding over to be a part of the cast of a new Young Avengers book. Ben Affleck’s Argo will be released in October. The film tells the story of six Americans who had avoided being taken hostage in the US embassy in Iran in 1979 and escaped the country because the United States and Canadian governments were able to convince Iranian authorities that they were making a sci-fi movie called Argo. Jack Kirby’s concept artwork for the planned Lords Of Light movie was used in the operation to make the whole project seem authentic. Kirby is being played in the film by Michael Parks. NBC is developing a program based on Adam Beechen and Manny Bello’s 2004 AiT/Planet Lar book Hench, about a regular guy who, in order to support his family, gets jobs temping for super villains. Word is that the Daredevil reboot from Fox is less and less likely, with the studio putting the kibosh on director Joe Carnahan’s take on a gritty, 70s-style Man Without Fear. If the studio can’t get a Daredevil project into production by October 10th, the rights revert back to Marvel/Disney. Marvel is in talks with James Gunn to direct the Guardians of the Galaxy film scheduled for 2014. The film’s plot, according to several industry databases, is “about a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.” Iron Man 3 is looking at a production delay after Robert Downey Jr. banged up his ankle last week while filming a stunt. Torchwood star John Barrowman has been signed to join the cast of the CW’s Arrow series.

Dominion: Dark Ages This is the 7th addition to the game of Dominion. It is 500 cards but is not a standalone. It adds 35 new Kingdom cards to Dominion, plus new bad cards you give to other players (Ruins), new cards to replace starting Estates (Shelters), and cards you can only get via specific other cards. The central themes are the trash and upgrading. There are cards that do something when trashed, cards that care about the trash, cards that upgrade themselves, and ways to upgrade other cards. $44.99
7 Wonders: Cities This extension provides a new family of cards that complements Ages already existing in 7 Wonders. Now, mercenaries, thieves, spies and diplomats will give a new scale to your cities. Reap the benefits by sowing discord among your opponents, play them off each other and push them into debt. $29.99 The newest expansion for Munchkin, Zombies 3 is also now available. Yu-Gi-Oh: Return of the Duelist releases next Tuesday, August 28th.
At GenCon, Steve Jackson Games announced Chez Guild, Munchkin Apocalypse: Mars Attacks and Munchkin Pathfinder due out next year. Gale Force Nine has a board game based on the STARZ series Spartacus, Spartacus: A Game of Blood and Treachery, due out next month. |
